Jetty lighting on Priwall

Lighting for Wind and Water

Priwall near Lübeck is a popular destination for sailors and visitors. A new lighting system was planned for the peninsula’s walkways to provide safe routes while withstanding the demanding conditions at the waterfront.

The Project

During storm surges, the walkways are flooded several times a year. The lighting therefore had to be seawater-resistant, robust and reliable. At the same time, the walkways serve as public routes and, in some areas, escape routes, making safe and uniform illumination essential.

The existing railings also placed specific requirements on the dimensions of the luminaires. Two different luminaire lengths were required.

The Solution: Custom Luminaire Priwall

Together with POHL and HANSELICHT, hansen developed a customised luminaire specifically for the requirements of Priwall.

The “Priwall Special Luminaire” consists of a seawater-resistant solid acrylic body with a specially developed LED circuit board. The LEDs are arranged in series and fully encapsulated. This creates a robust and durable solution that emits light evenly towards the walkway.

Centralised Technology and Intelligent Control

A key advantage of hansen constant-current technology is that the converters and control technology could be installed centrally in two converter cabinets. Each luminaire was provided with its own supply line – around 20 kilometres of cable were installed in total.

The entire system can be monitored and controlled via the LichtWART control system. The system status can be accessed at any time via PC, tablet or smartphone. In the event of a fault, the responsible personnel are automatically notified.

The lighting level can also be adjusted dynamically. This means that only as much light as required for safety is used, reducing unnecessary glare and energy consumption.

The Result

Following successful lighting measurements and approval by the appointed expert, the system was installed in early 2022 and commissioned in spring 2022.

The Priwall Special Luminaire has since provided safe lighting along the walkways – reliable, energy-efficient and designed to withstand demanding conditions at the waterfront.
