Putting Research in the Right Light

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) makes research and technology accessible to visitors. In 2024, a modern showroom was created in the foyer of the lecture hall building to showcase successful research results in an engaging way.

The Project

The exhibition concept was developed by kursiv | text – objekt – raum GmbH from Dresden. The aim was to create high-quality information panels that could be flexibly adapted to different topics.

The originally planned drywall exhibition walls were replaced by a slim and elegant solution. Instead, the panels were designed to be suspended from the ceiling. Existing suspension points in the foyer could be used, making the solution sustainable, flexible and space-saving.

The Right Lighting Solution

Especially during the darker months, the exhibition was to be enhanced by atmospheric lighting. Following a recommendation from a lighting designer, the team contacted hansen.

The choice fell on frameless LED light panels with a depth of just 21 mm. Their slim design blends discreetly into the exhibition concept while providing even illumination of the information panels.

Another advantage: the printed foils can be replaced at any time. The illuminated panels themselves can remain in place and be reused for different exhibition topics.

The Implementation

The light panels were ordered from hansen at the end of 2024, manufactured at short notice and delivered on schedule at the end of January 2025.

The panels were delivered fully assembled and only needed to be suspended on site. The supplied suspension system also integrated perfectly into the existing system at the HZDR.

The Result

Four elegant illuminated panels make the research results in the showroom highly visible. The combination of slim design, homogeneous illumination and interchangeable content makes the solution particularly flexible and sustainable.

The positive feedback has already led to considerations of using the same solution in other areas.
