City Hall of Neubrandenburg
Light Brings Colour to the Town Hall.
The town hall of Neubrandenburg was built in 1966 as a prefabricated concrete building. From 2019 onwards, the distinctive building underwent extensive energy-efficient renovation, while also receiving a completely new visual appearance.
The façade was designed to look more modern and vibrant, complemented by energy-efficient LED lighting that highlights the building, particularly during events and in the evening hours.
The Project
As part of the façade renovation, the characteristic prefabricated building was to be given a new look on its western side using colourful façade elements and targeted lighting effects.
Instead of illuminating the entire façade, selected window sections were designed as illuminated elements. Together with HANSELICHT, a suitable lighting solution was developed.
The choice fell on the hansen Miniprofil Type 940 with white LEDs at 3,000 Kelvin. An intelligent dimming control system was also integrated into the planning. This allows the lighting to be flexibly adapted to different lighting moods and events while helping to reduce energy consumption.
The Implementation
As part of the public tender, S+T FASSADEN from Tessin near Rostock was commissioned with the façade renovation and implementation of the lighting.
A substructure was installed onto the existing building and fitted with insulation. Multicoloured aluminium composite panels give the building its new, vibrant appearance.
A total of around 500 metres of LED light profiles were planned for the lighting and integrated into the window areas as eye-catching elements.
In summer 2021, a total of 250 Miniprofiles, each 2,300 mm long and including connection cables, were ordered from hansen. The profiles were individually pre-assembled and delivered on schedule.
The framing profiles manufactured by S+T FASSADEN for the window reveals were precisely adapted to the Miniprofiles. Together with HANSELICHT, the lighting was then installed and commissioned.
The Result
The new appearance of the town hall is particularly striking at dusk: the selectively illuminated windows create distinctive accents, while the colourful façade elements give the building a modern and vibrant appearance.
A characteristic prefabricated building has thus been transformed into a highly visible interplay of light and colour – giving the architecture a distinctive appearance both day and night.
